December 15 - 19 (Music week 12)

Important Dates: Winter Break December 20th - January 4th

TO SUPPORT LEARNING:

Sing together; sing often; sing to inspire joy. "Don't worry that it's not good enough for anyone else to hear; just sing, sing a song."

Learning Intentions:

-I can distinguish voice sounds; differentiate singing from speaking voice

-I can recognize 'like' and 'unlike' phrases / patterns; identify repetition and contrast

-I can sing with expression; articulation (legato and staccato) and range of dynamics (incorporate crescendo and diminuendo)

-I can respond to beat through action and simple body percussion

-I can use pitch awareness for singing; extend vocal development to include phrasing, enunciation and expression

Students participated in holiday singalong sessions to experience singing as a school community. Group singing supports social relationships and is extremely effective for bonding large groups. This is valuable in today's world, where many of our social interactions take place by way of virtual platforms. Singing exercises the body and brain, making us present in our connections with others while reducing levels of cortisol and stimulating the flow of positive endorphins. Singing also improves breathing, posture and muscle tension. So many reasons to participate in a holiday sing song!

Students also participated in fun and interactive singing and music trivia activities to support enhanced experiences with musical patterns, relationships and singing with attention to phrasing, enunciation and dynamics. Each opportunity to sing helps us to improve rhythm and pitch awareness to support musical muscle memory.

Thank you to all of you for your ongoing support in all things musical. The students enhance my teaching days through their vibrant energy and willingness to try new things. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of their learning, however big or small it might be, in the context of their busy lives.

Best wishes for opportunities to create meaning and memory with your families over the winter break.

Love from,

Mrs. McMillan
