September 2 - 5 (Music Week 1)

Learning Intentions (Everyone): I can perform simple action songs and singing games; I can move, demonstrating awareness of others, to show beat in a manner that is appropriate to psychomotor development.

Students spent their first music classes familiarizing themselves with the music room routines and with each other. We performed silly action songs and played a variety of group games to practice routines for peaceful cooperation. Music requires us to work together to create organized sound. It is essential that we work towards positive relationships and routines to promote a safe and caring space. We will continue to revisit questions about what that feels, sounds and looks like as we progress through activities in the weeks ahead.

You can support students at home by attending to music with intention while driving or at home. Encourage kids to tap the beat to internalize rhythmic awareness or identify instruments, including voices, that you hear. Listening with focus is a valuable skill as it helps to build understanding of musical relationships.

Best wishes for a happy and restful weekend!

Musically Yours,

Mrs. Katie McMillan
